El nou president

Malgrat els habituals corrents de pensament domèstic que s'han fet seu el personatge. Malgrat la visió plana de la realitat tan habitual a casa nostra. Malgrat les festes al Luz de Gas i al Círculo de Bellas Artes. Malgrat el provincianisme del retrat gegant a la nostra ciutat (que prefereixo no saber qui ha pagat). Malgrat tot això, m'alegro del triomf d'Obama. Perquè crec que calia un canvi, una sotragada. Perquè suposa el trencament d'una barrera racial. Perquè trenca molts esterotips que els europeus tenim sobre els Estats Units. I, sobretot, perquè transmet il·lusió. De vegades, i tant de bo m'equivoqui, amb això no n'hi ha prou, però des d'aquesta Catalunya grisa en què vivim es veu amb enveja aquest missatge engrescador. Esperem que Obama sigui un nou Roosvelt, un nou Kennedy i no un nou Carter.
No puc deixar d'incloure aquesta autèntica icona que és el Yes, we can. La veritat és que aquestes paraules fan posar la pell de gallina.

We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea --Yes. We. Can.
